Helping Others

Want to put something back into our community?

Want to roll-up your sleeves and get stuck in? Want to be part of more than just a local volunteer group? Why not join Worcester Lions Club?

We seek to make a difference in our community and to help the young, elderly and those less able to help themselves. But we are so much more. We are part of Lions International, the world’s largest voluntary service organisation, with over 1.4 million members in 49,000 Lions Clubs around the world.

There are many ways we GET INVOLVED. With your help we could do even more. Why not join us?

WE THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL

Lions Spectacle Recycling

We are the only organisation in Worcester recycling spectacles for reuse in the developing world. You will find our recycling bins in many local opticians around the City. Donated glasses are sent to a Lions-funded refurbishment centre in France and then onwards for reuse overseas.

WE HELP THE DISADVANTAGED

Worcester Street Cafe
We provide hands-on support to the homeless, cooking for the Street Cafe.

Laptops for schools
During Covid lockdown, we were the only organisation in Worcester recycling laptops, linking with local radio and a PC refurbishment company to provide around 80 laptops for school pupils and for patients in the Childhood Cancer Unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Food Banks
We have also assisted schools with food collections for disadvantaged pupils and have helped Worcester Food Bank with supermarket collections and stocktaking in their warehouse.

Care leavers
We also prepare Xmas Stockings for Worcester Care Leavers to give to youngsters leaving care.

WE SUPPORT HEALTH

Lions Message in a Bottle
We fund and distribute the lifesaving ‘Lions Message in a Bottle’ to those with hidden medical problems. These bottles, recognised by the Emergency Services, allow the owner to record their medical conditions, medication, next of kin etc.

Scrub bags
We make and provide free scrub bags to any health worker or patient who needs one.

Gardening
We keep the garden at the
NHS Timberdine Inpatient Unit looking spick and span for the patients and visitors.

Diabetes
We work with other local Lions Clubs to promote and assist the Silver Star charity who provide diabetes testing at local events.

WE ENCOURAGE YOUTH

During lockdown, we ran a Lions Young Lockdown Hero project to recognise young people who have gone the extra mile during the Covid pandemic.

We provided items for use of the kids in the Childhood Cancer Unit a Worcester Royal Hospital.

And we encourage young people to think about peace by taking part in the global Lions Clubs International Peace Poster / Essay competition.
