How many people do you impact with your charitable work?
Since July 2021, Worcester Lions Club has helped over 12,000 people, through projects such as preparing hot meals for the homeless Street Café, distributing Lions Message in a Bottle kits for vulnerable people, recycling unwanted spectacles for use in the developing world. In total Worcester Lions members provided over 500 hours of hands on service to the local community in this period.
If I make a donation, can I decide what my money is used for?
Some Lions appeals will be for specific projects with all monies raised ring-fenced. However, generally monies collected from the public are used in furtherance of its aims to provide hands-on service and grants to deserving causes primarily within the City of Worcester and surrounding areas, as described elsewhere on this website.
How is Worcester Lions different from other Worcester area charities?
Worcester Lions Club is more than just a local Charity, it is part of Lions Clubs International, with over 1.4 million members in over 200 countries. This allows us to Think Global but Act Local, like with our Spectacle recycling that involves collecting locally, sending to a Lions facility in France for refurbishment and then on to the developing world where local Lions Clubs help to distribute to those in need. Like all Lions Clubs, all monies raised from the public are only ever used for charitable causes. The administrative cost of running Worcester Lions Club (CIO) is covered by the Lions members themselves.
Is Worcester Lions Club a registered charity?
Yes. Worcester Lions Club is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number: 1189738). Membership of Worcester Lions Club is open to anyone of legal majority who genuinely wants to help others and improve the community in which we live. However, we ask those interested to come along, see what we do, get involved and help us before deciding whether they wish to join the Club.
Is there a cost to joining?
Yes. Lions members cover all the administrative costs of running the Lions Club themselves. It works out at about the cost of a cup of coffee per week.
Does the Club hold members events?
The Club holds ad hoc events for members. These include visits to, or speakers from, groups that we have supported. We also hold an annual Charter meal to celebrate the anniversary of the Clubs formation and have occasional meals out. All are entirely optional, and the costs are borne only by those attending.
